Okay. This is just going to be a quick post on how freaked-out I am over seeing a scorpion today.
Not unlike many people…I hate spiders, and bugs, and snakes, and scorpions…and go out of my way to avoid running into these scary creatures. However, since moving to Florida, I’ve known that I am now living in “scary creature territory”. I love being five minutes from the beach, but if I didn’t know better…I would think Florida must be the bug capital of the universe.
In two years, I’ve seen more bugs than I could even tell you about. The most annoying bug, has got to be what Floridians affectionately refer to as “love bugs”…The name makes you think these must be cute little (ladybug type) pink and fuzzy bugs…NOPE. These guys come in swarms of thousands at a time, and they are ugly black bugs that look like huge flying ants (with two heads)…But when you look a little closer…you realize why they call them love bugs (and I don’t mean they are kissing).
Even though I knew it was possible that I would eventually come face-to-stinger with a scorpion…I pretty much convinced myself that it was highly unlikely. Lets just say…blissfully ignorant is often my “happy place”. Unfortunately, a few hours ago my happy place came colliding into my reality place (more specifically, my bathroom). It was big (about three inches), it was ugly (blackish/red), and it totally freaked me out (and that’s actually putting it nicely…it was probably more like a complete break-down) . Thank God my son was home to “take care” of it. But now I’m walking on eggshells, feeling like I may see another one at any moment. I’ll probably end up sleeping with one eye open, and the bug spray under my pillow…if I sleep at all.
So, that’s my “I hate scorpions” story.
