Mommy Bloggers and Dooce on NBC (see video)
Mommy Bloggers and Dooce on NBC Morning Show — by Catherine Morgan
Is it just me or did Kathie Lee kinda “diss” mommy bloggers? Or maybe just minimize their importance? Here is the clip. What do you think?

I don’t see the diss. I just see Kathie Lee as someone who’s out of touch and doesn’t really understand the blogosphere. No harm done. Go Heather!

Eh, I wouldn’t call it a diss exactly, I just think Kathie Lee is self-important and doesn’t “get”, it and probably thinks it’s silly. She was however kind of dismissive and bitchy draped in ignorance, if you will. Like the cutting Heather off at the end. Whatever, she’s old school.

Sure, Kathie Lee is old, and anything she says about blogging should probably be fed through scared-shitless-of-anything-to-do-with-computers filter before you take it to heart, but she and Hoda Kotb both hit on something that I have concerns about myself. Not for Heather so much (caveat blogger), but for her daughter, and for the general safety of moms, dads and kids when their blogs are pretty much spilling all the details of their lives to the world. Especially when the person’s blog gives them some level of celebrity. It seems that the more popular you become, the bigger the target that’s painted your back. Britney Spears and Tom Cruise are perfect examples.
Not to mention the potential family fallout should a blogger’s child get mercilessly teased at school because of something mom wrote on her blog. Even in this video, Heather doesn’t seem to have a good answer for that concern, other than she thinks Leta will get over that when she sees the good it’s doing for bloggerkind. And she may be right. But I don’t know if I’d want my childhood diaper wearing detailed to the planet in the name of Something That Doesn’t Matter To Me.
And I hope this doesn’t come off like I don’t like Heather’s blog - I read it daily and have sent encouraging emails as well as asked for blogging advice. I just can’t help but feel like something important is being mortgaged here, and the final balloon payment might be way bigger than anyone could have expected to pay.
